Steve Jobs died the other day. My sympathies for this plutocrat begin and end with the fact that cancer sucks. I’m sorry for his family, but why should I feel anything other than good riddance for a guy who was making leisure products for the overprivileged. All this outpouring of grief is really confusing to me, it’s not like he had a legacy as a person of philanthropy, he didn’t balance the budget, or fight to end poverty, or do anything that had a lasting benefit for society; he was the head of a company whose lasting legacy is that technology should be disposable.
If Bob Iger died next week, should we expect the same outpouring of grief.
