A friend said it best first Friday is 621, the other side, and the cosmic cat. It's kind of sad that the best art that can be found in Tallahassee is consistently viewed at the cosmic cat.
621's show last week was in one word horrific. Good art invites the user to stay and contemplate the image they are looking at, I can not think of an instance where I have spent more then a few casual seconds at best looking the images found at first Friday. I don't know if it is the fact the most of the "galleries" down at railroad square are inhospitable due to their past as lumber mills or if its the horrible presentation but I just don't feel any of the art is compelling.
I'm compelled to go home and look at porn and that is a bad thing I really like art. The worst thing I had seen was this painting by Mark Messersmith, busy painting with colours ripped from a day glow nightmare, I really feel his "art" is like a well executed Kinkade painting. It's not to my tastes but I am sure there are people who are willing to over look the questionable choice in colour, composition, and framing.
