After some serious buckling down I finished my painting I was working
on for my cousin. I called her and let her know that it had been sent
and that I was hopeful that she found it to be to her satisfaction.
The question had been asked of me if I was happy with the end results
and after much thinking I said it was growing on me. Hardly the sort
of beaming declaration that she thought she would encounter but I
didn’t paint for myself in this instance, my goal was to make her
happy. I hope I didn’t disappoint, what meager talent I posses I hope
it exceed itself and she becomes enthralled by the painting.
I tend to not like the things I paint anyway. I see all
the things I could have done, I see all the squandered opportunity,
and I see all the regret poured out onto a piece of paper. I probably
have unrealistic goals; I want to paint something that is beautiful,
by the lofty standards I have set for myself drawing from the
inspiration of Botticelli, Fra Filllipo Lippi, Muccha, Kirby, and
Michelangelo; might be crazy but at least it’s something to aim for I
suppose. Practice makes perfect, and every small step is me that much
closer to exceptional.
