Yesterday while drinking coffee at a local establishment I saw my friend Marty walk and before he had his guest buy him his drink he stopped for a bit and had a visit. He seemed pleased with himself, a smile beaming across his face as he wanted me to guess what he had down. I said I know what you didn’t do, and that s pay your damn tag. He looked befuddled, and I said Marty, we both have Xbox live I saw you bough yet another new game and frankly I added I hope the cops pull you over.
He squinted and began making a little clicking noise from the side of his face to try masking his anger, I had seen this before when I called him a stupid asshole for getting a ticket last year for not buckling his seat belt and he demanded sympathy for his finical plight this had put him under. Yea Marty, I said, I hope you get pulled over and here is why. You received this notification in January and here we are in the middle of March and you still haven’t done the responsible thing. It’s not a matter of if you get pulled over but when. He shot me a squirrelly look and walked off.
Again, not sorry. Marty got pulled over when he was 20 for driving with an expired tag and devolved an intense hatred for the police that day. He didn’t know the police were signaling him to pull over and drove a full two miles before catching on. The cop yelled at Marty that day saying he could have blew his brains out, and before crying Marty made an oath to hate all those who enforce our laws. Not because he did anything but because they yelled at him.
