Fun times

I’m not the kind of person who has a cache of stories that directly show off the stupid things I have done in the post. Which isn’t to say that I haven’t done stupid things; I once convinced a friend that the best thing he could do to silence the loud squeals of a fire alarms was to cut the wires because that’s what works in movies. Hell, my brother and I used to do all sorts of stupid things; we peed into an empty mountain dew can and left it in the drive way, because it seemed like a good idea. We also had this great game where we rode our bikes down a hill as fast as we could and then jumped off our bikes at a predetermined point, the winner was the person who landed on their feet after performing this stupefying feat.
I have a younger brother, and I learned pretty quickly that there is more reward to be found in convincing others to do acts of mischief. It was this thinking that led me to ask my brother one glorious spring day to do something stupid. I believe the appeal I made to him was that it would be funny if he got on the roof and danced a jig. We were already outside, bored and I think my brother saw the wisdom in my words and enthusiastically agreed to do something to ease or boredom. He ran to the side of the house and pulled out one of the ladders my step dad kept and gleefully ascended to the roof. I was blown away by the spectacle my brother put on, twirling and dancing with such fearless bravado; then of course the inevitable occurred.
Pouring out of the house with a wail from hell, my other opened the door. “What the hell are you are you doing”
Our laughter stopped. Mother’s face was red “you could have fallen through the roof” she exclaimed, a thought that had not occurred to us. My brother reluctantly jumped from his perch and we went back inside; which was weird because we were told to go outside and enjoy the beautiful day.
