I was driving home the other day, and I realized that a person cannot claim to be a Christian and espouse the “virtues” of capitalism at the same time; they are concepts that are at their core incompatible. Capitalism is about exploitation of resources and the worker to ultimately generate profits for the corporation, compassion at any level tends to come in conflict with the sole reason businesses exist; and that’s profit. People want to talk about a moral decay that exists in modern society but are quick to lay the blame at the feet of Immigrants, homosexuals, and Muslims. We have turned away from a sense of community and compassion and have chosen empty vanities and treasure.
Wal Mart is the best example of the moral failure in our society. Low price consumer goods produced by what amounts to slave labor, sold at a store whose employees are paid a pittance while the plutocrats who run the place get rich by selling people on the idea that all the best things in this world are disposable. We are all guilty, and it’s easy to just say that’s the way it is. What’s the solution, beats me, this is called dispatches from the obvious not solutions from the obvious.
