Sad but true

I love comics, but lately I am slowly growing disenfranchised with the narrative structure they employ. I think the problem is that as I have grown the sorts of things I like have become more sophisticated, and comics seem to be stuck in a perpetual state of tire spinning. Comics have always had this problem, but it had the readership numbers that would support the lack of any real momentum. Television and comics suffer the same narrative quirks which are the illusion that things change, but ultimately the status quo must remain consistent. I know we are never going to see the end of Batman’s war on crime, or evil ever truly defeated but I’d like to see these companies take a chance and do something bold like have a conclusion. I think I have become spoiled by shows like Lost, while serial in nature build towards a conclusion. I understand that potentially every comic book is somebody’s first, but all the major publisher have been guilty for years of cannibalizing their readership, but I also know that underwear and t-shirts do more to keep the trademarks alive then a comic book.
It’s not really radical to think that the best thing to from a creative standpoint is to take a gamble and write an ending.
